Making Tracks Across The Valley
http://www.alle-kiskitoday.com/articles/1864
Now, in the midst of winter, the onset of warmer temperatures
is greatly hoped for. In just weeks spring will be here and
already people can see the light at the end of the winter
tunnel. With the coming improvements in the weather also comes
the opportunity for outdoor sports and recreation. One of the
greatest treasures in our communities are walking trails. As
much as we all enjoy them seldom do we stop and think about
the time, hard work, and money that have been invested into
them. And this isnt being done by some large contractor but
by people just like us
.volunteers. It is the volunteers that
make it happen.

OUR LOCAL HERITAGE
http://www.alle-kiskitoday.com/articles/archives/8
All About Wherrys Defeat in Leechburg: 'Wherry's Defeat' was
two miles down river from Leechburg in the early 1900's. James
Wherry, during the time there was a canal, had been given the
contract to build a retaining wall between the Kiski and the
canal towpath. It took months of labor, but the job was almost
finished when the Kiski, during one of its rampaging floods,
whisked away the entire fortification. Though it was later
rebuilt, Mr. Wherry lost what today would be nearly a million
dollars in the washed-up investment. Read more interesting
history at Our Local Heritage at above site. Click on
