     WHAT’S NEW IN ALLE-KISKI TODAY

     Prize Inside the Box
     http://www.alle-kiskitoday.com/articles/1820

The modernistic limestone building sitting solemnly on the
Tarentum hillside somewhat contradicts its elegant contents.
You aren't sure what to expect when you first walk inside the
august and comely vault-like structure—it's mysterious, and
I'm thinking CIA! Once inside, however, you are soon
surrounded in a setting of exquisite, polished refinery, and
you realize you have walked into a cavernous treasury of over
a century of this region's legacy. Found at the corner of Lock
Street and East Seventh Avenue, this pearl inside the clam is
the Alle-Kiski Valley Heritage Museum. Read our lead story for
this month and watch the interview.

     INTERNET NEWS

     HERE COME THE PODCASTERS
It's called "podcasting," and it has the potential of
changing the dynamics of broadcasting the same way blogs have
changed the dynamics of print and TV journalism. Podcasting
allows anyone with a PC to become a broadcaster -- at
virtually no cost. Programs distributed with this technology
can be received anywhere, anytime (without requiring the
listener to be near a PC), and they can be paused, rewound or
fast-forwarded. The number of regular podcasts is now more
than 800, with many focusing on gadgets, technology, new
bands and music, or developments in politics, movies and
sports. One podcaster says, "It would be great if I made a
fortune doing it, but I don't see how that could possibly
happen. I'm not really trying for it, either. I'm hoping to
meet some interesting people and establish some good
communications with people on weird topics." (AP/USA Today 7
     Feb 2005)

     OUR LOCAL HERITAGE
     http://www.alle-kiskitoday.com/articles/archives/8

As traders and settlers journeyed on the Kiskiminetas Path
that crossed the Kiski nearby, they likely stopped at
Kiskiminetas Old Towne. It was a Delaware or Shawnee village
on the banks of the Kiski near Pine Run, that likely developed
into a trading post and later a coal mining shanty town. Read
more interesting history at Our Local Heritage at above site.
