     COMPUTER~INTERNET TOOLS AND TIPS

     Opening PDF Files
     http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Many of the downloadable materials available through the World
Wide Web are saved as PDF (Portable Document Format) files.
These files look and act just like regular Web pages, but
they're specifically designed to come out of your home printer
looking just like they do on-screen. If you've printed Web
pages at home before (especially pages with lots of graphics),
you know that what you see online is not always what you get
from your printer. PDF technology eliminates this problem so
the diagrams, pictures and illustrations you print out from
REI.com are as useful at home as they are on online. To view
PDF files and print them out, you need a simple software
program. One of the most popular PDF-viewing programs is
Adobe's Acrobat Reader, which is free and very easy to
download from the Adobe Systems Incorporated Web site (see
link above). To install Acrobat Reader on your PC, simply
follow the instructions provided by Adobe. You'll have to exit
your Web browser briefly to make sure everything is set up
properly. But once installed, Acrobat Reader will
automatically come to life anytime you want to view, download
or print out a PDF file anywhere on the Web.
