Springdale Coach Brian Gaetano & the Dynamos
     http://alle-kiskitoday.com/articles/1707

It wasn't a pretty sight last year for the Dynamos. Let's just
say there weren't many W's in the Win column. Coach Brian
Gaetano, now in his second season as Chief Operator of the
Dynamos, probably won't forget it. But he knows some things
took place that may help this year fade the memories of last
     season.

     INTERNET NEWS

e-Health and the Elderly: How Seniors Use the Internet for
     Health -- Survey
" A national Kaiser Family Foundation survey of older
Americans found that as the Internet becomes an increasingly
important resource for informing decisions about health and
health care options, less than a third (31%) of seniors (age
65 and older) have ever gone online, but that more than two-
thirds (70%) of the next generation of seniors (50-64 year-
olds) have done so. The differences among seniors and 50-64
year-olds are striking and indicate that online resources for
health information may soon play a much larger role among
older Americans. Twenty-one percent of seniors have gone
online to look for health information compared to 53% of 50-
64 year-olds; 8% of seniors get "a lot" of health information
online compared to 24% of 50-64 year-olds; the Internet is
5th on a list of media sources of health information for
seniors compared to first among 50-64 year-olds; and 26% of
seniors trust the Internet “a lot” or “some” to provide
accurate health information, compared to 58% of 50-64 year-
olds. The survey is a nationally representative, random digit
dial telephone survey of 1,450 adults age 50 and older,
including 583 respondents age 65 and older. The report was
released at a briefing held in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday,
     January 12, 2005."

     OUR LOCAL HERITAGE
     http://www.alle-kiskitoday.com/articles/archives/8

Map Reveals New Light On Apollo's Beginning (Part 1)
Apollo may have gotten its name much earlier than has been
commonly believed. The land along the Kiski where Apollo is
today was called Warren's Sleeping Grounds in the late 1700s
and even early 1800s. An Indian Chief was supposed to be
buried along there, and his name was Chief Warren. By the
early 1800s, however, the name had been shortened to "Warren"
and a town was beginning to take shape. By 1827, it got its
own post office--still called "Warren". The story (told in
History of Armstrong County, Pennsylvania by Robert Walker
Smith in 1883, as well as by Armstrong County, Pa., Her
People, Past and Present by J. H. Beers in 1914, and passed
down for the last 100 years) has usually been something like
this: Packages kept going to Warren, PA near the Alleghenies,
rather than to Warren (Apollo), PA, near the Kiski. It caused
a lot of problems with the mail, so by "act of Legislature" in
1848, the name was changed to prevent confusion. Warren, PA on
the Kiski, became Apollo, PA (why, no one seems to know), and
it became a borough. But two Pennsylvania maps (one dated
1835, and one dated 1834) both show today's name, Apollo, as
the name for the area along the Kiski--not Warren. In fact,
the 1835 map spelled Apollo as Appollo. It is from an atlas
that year published in Boston by Thomas Bradford. The other
map is from Tanner's Universal Atlas, published in
Philadelphia by Henry S. Tanner. Both maps were recently
published on the Internet on a site by USGENWEB, located at
     http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/maps/pa/ . [More tomorrow]
