     FRIDAY ON ALLE-KISKI TODAY ONLINE

     * ALLE-KISKI HEADLINES:

=> * Alle-Kiski Women: Achieving Her Dream and Serving
Her Community. As a teenager, Jennie Bullard’s
dream was to become a lawyer, but growing up in
DuBois, PA did not afford that opportunity since
there is not a law school in the area.
=> * Inspired Youth: Though the new youth group at First
United Methodist Church of Vandergrift began only
six months ago, they are blasting into winter with
plenty of creativity and exciting activities.
=> * Missions: Most of us have experienced working with
different types of soil. Some have worked with good
rich soil that is easy to cultivate and yields a
               bountiful harvest.

     OUR LOCAL HERITAGE
     http://www.alle-kiskitoday.com/

Don't You Depreciate Me: Revolutionary War soldiers were paid
"Certificates of Depreciation" giving them land instead of
pay. Many settlers thought they owned it and were safe from
Indians. But these "Depreciation Lands", partly located
between Bull and Buffalo Creeks, were NOT safe. Indians were
still fighting to keep their land. And the settlers-soldiers
found they did NOT own the land. Courts ruled a French
trader's daughter owned this several thousand acres of land
next to the Allegheny River, mentioned above. Settlers had to
buy their land back. Today, this is Tarentum, Brackenridge,
and Natrona. Read more interesting history by clicking on
