     OUR LOCAL HERITAGE
     www.alle-kiskitoday.com

INDUSTRIAL-STRENTGH MAGIC: In 1905, the Pittsburgh Reduction
Company was one of the top industries in New Kensington. The
company used a secret process of electrically 'reducing' clay
into aluminum. The 600 workers there supplied aluminum for
cars, under-ocean communications cables (a business still in
its infancy), and New York subways. Read more interesting
history at Our Local Heritage at above site.

     A Landsat Perspective
     http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/earthasart/

This exhibition showcases Landsat 7 images, from the
collection of Landsat photographs held in the Geography and
Map Division, which have been selected for aesthetic rather
than scientific value. These images are actual pictures of the
Earth, created by printing visible and infrared data in colors
visible to the human eye. Band combinations and colors were
chosen to optimize their dramatic appearance.
