     Of Interest To Hunters

A 1921 news item of interest to hunters indicated that deer seen
on the Jackson Farm in Apollo were evidence that the state’s game
policy was working. Several years earlier, deer had been
released in Westmoreland County, and there had been recent
sightings at Roaring Run and at Rearick’s Fording as well. The
last deer was killed in this area in 1820, when Owen Jones
clubbed a deer with an oar as it attempted to swim the river at
the old Warren Ferry above the Apollo Bridge.
