+ The Ten Commandments of Internet Searching

There are right ways -- and wrong ways -- of using the
Internet as a search resource. Newcomers often make the
mistake of thinking that "everything" can be found on the net.

The Ten Commandments of Internet Searching

     1. Know your search engine. Remembering that only portions of
all the websites are indexed by the best search engines
     leads right into #2.

     2. Use multiple search engines (or metacrawlers)

     3. Don't count on being anonymous. Don't forget about those
     cookies!

     4. Search for sources and references, not just information.

     5. Consider the source of what you find. Just because it is in
print, doesn't mean it's true. Information can be typed
incorrectly or copied from another source that was wrong. Or
perhaps it is written just to be misleading.

     6. Be prepared to spend some money to get the really good
     stuff.

     7. Ask, "Is there any reason to believe what I want is out
     there?" BEFORE going on-line.

     8. Don't use the Internet to do a database service's work.

     9. Know your outcome. Searching or surfing? Searching has an
outcome in mind. Surfing implies enjoying the ride letting
yourself be taken along where links lead you. Each has its
     purpose -- understand the difference.

     10. Buy a kitchen timer. If you don't watch yourself, you will
spend hours looking for something that can't be found or you
will end up surfing instead of searching.

                             INTERNET NEWS

PUT A PENTIUM 4 IN YOUR LAP
Intel Monday says it is now shipping its flagship chip - the
Pentium 4 - for use in laptops and other mobile PCs. The
Santa Clara, Calif.-based chip making giant says the mobile
Intel Pentium 4 processor-M is great at speeding up video
and other CPU intensive processes. The chip only uses two
watts of power, which makes it perfect for thin-and-light
systems. The processor is expected to compete with
Transmeta's (NASDAQ:TMTA) Crusoe chips and the Athlon 4 and
Duron mobile chips made by Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)
(NYSE:AMD). At speeds of 1.7 and 1.6 GHz, the P4-M is
designed using Intel's new NetBurst Micro-Architecture. The
form consists of a 400 MHz processor system bus, Hyper
Pipelined Technology, an Execution Trace Cache, Rapid
Execution Engine, and 144 Streaming SIMD instructions
     (SSE2). It also includes a 512k on-die L2 cache.

     MSN STEPS UP ANTI-AOL CAMPAIGN
Microsoft's MSN is upping the ante in its fight against
America Online for Internet access subscribers, offering a
cool $50 to anyone willing to make the switch by the end of
May. MSN said it plans to run television, print and online
ads promoting the offer, which is valid for both dial-up and
broadband subscribers. In addition, U.S. Postal Service
trucks in key markets -- including San Francisco, Atlanta,
New York, Chicago, Boston and Detroit -- will bear versions
of the MSN ad from March 15 to May 15. Those willing to
trade ISPs are encouraged in the ads to visit switch.msn.com
for details on the offer, which is paid only after
subscribers have used Redmond, Wash.-based MSN's Internet
access service for more than three months. Spending on the
     campaign was not disclosed.
