     KISKI VALLEY PEOPLE

                         ____HISTORY SHORT____

In 1895 the Vandergrift Land Company donated some of the best
corner lots in town and offered to pay half the cost of a church
building if the church congregation would put up a building worth
at least 15,000. The Methodist, Lutheran and Presbyterian
churches took advantage of this offer.

The churches must have had an impact on the community because
one story relates that only two policemen are on duty, one
during the day and one during the night. The town is so quiet
that when police help is needed you can usually find one
sleeping on the steps of the theatre.
