     Q.  How can I solve the problem of browser windows popping  up
     in rapid succession no matter how quickly I try to close them?
     
     A. You can run into pop up windows at many sites today. Before
     you  know it, the browser windows become hydra-like, with  two
     new  ones appearing for every one you manage to close. You can
     solve  the  problem  by  rebooting, but that's  obviously  not
     practical on a day-to-day basis. A better solution is  to  use
     the  Alt-F4 keyboard combination, which closes any open window
     on the Desktop, including individual browser windows. When you
     realize  the windows are proliferating, hold down the Alt  key
     and  press  and  release the F4 key every time  a  new  window
     opens. If you're quick enough, you'll usually be able to  stop
     the  proliferation after four or five Alt-F4 combinations. The
     best  way to permanently control this and other intrusive  Web
     behavior is the free utility, CookieCop 2, which can block pop-
     up windows or alert you when one is ready to appear. CookieCop
     2 is available at www.pcmag.com/utilities.

     Birders,  bills itself as a network of destination  sites  for
     birders.  The  site includes 34 species of Eastern  Shorebirds
     that  can  be  viewed by an alphabetical index, a  Latin  name
     index,  by  Peterson  Field Guide text, or  by  species  group
     derived  by the American Ornithologists Union. Clicking  on  a
     particular  species brings a variety of photos,  descriptions,

     The  competition-plagued computer maker says it's not likely
     to return to profitability until 2003; however, the CEO says
     company is 'bucking seasonal sales trends'.
     
     DISNEY FIGHTS ‘DIGITAL PIRACY’ BEFORE SENATE
     CEO Michael Eisner urges federal lawmakers to apply open and
     common  content  standards to slow, if  not  eliminate,  the
     worldwide raid on creative digital content.
     
     NEW LAW MAY KILL INTERNET RADIO
     Listeners may have to pay to keep online stations alive.  An
     upcoming  decision by the United States Library of  Congress
     may   disconnect  you  from  your  favorite  Internet  radio
     station. The Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel, a  special
     arbitration  team  appointed by the United States  Copyright
     Office,  has recommended that online radio stations pay  .14
     of  a  penny for every song streamed online. America  Online
     says  its  site, Spinner, streams roughly 160 million  songs
     per  month.  Under the new law, the bill would work  out  to
     $224,000  per  month or $2.6 million per year. In  addition,
     the rate is retroactive. That's a lot of back payment, since
     many  Internet radio stations started broadcasting as  early
     as  1998.  Most upstart Internet companies just  don't  have
     that  money.  John  Jeffrey,  executive  vice  president  of
     Live365.com,  an  Internet radio portal  that  hosts  45,000
     independent webcasters, predicts that choices for  listeners
     will become very limited if this law passes.
