     Canal Travel Rates

It took four days to travel some 394 miles from Pittsburgh to
Philadelphia. The cost of this trip was $7 per person plus
     meals.

The price of freight on the canals was considerably cheaper than
freight by wagon. In the year 1853 the price of freight on the
canal was about 3 cents per ton while the cost of freight
traveling on wagons was 15 cents per ton. Added to the wagon
rate was the cost of staying at coach inns, which was anywhere
from $3 to $7 a night, plus meals.

     REQUEST FOR INFORMATION
I am looking for information about the Brody family who lived in
East Vandergrift in the 1920's to 1936, when they were flooded
     out.
The original name was Bardowski, which was changed to Brody. The
father was Thomas or Timofej, the mother was Domina and there
were 3 children, Mary, Catherine, and Harry. Domina died in 1927.
Mary had 2 children James & Eleanor.
I wonder if any one remembers or has any information about this
     family. Thank you, Diana
