     INDOOR GARDENING
Last year I moved into a small house that doesn’t have a yard.
This was very unfortunate since I enjoy gardening so much.
After a summer of envying everyone else’s flower gardens, I
decided to do something about it.

     Response to Friday’s History Short:

Kiskiminetas River: The meaning we were given as young students
was "beautiful water" or waters. I am not that old,(62) but do
remember being told that. Pat Lods (edited)

     Kiski Valley’s Salt Industry

The Kiski Valley’s salt industry was big business in the late
1700’s through the mid 1800s. In Saltsburg, Salina, and down the
Kiskiminetas River to Gravel Bar and Old Kiskiminetas Town were
Gordon Salt Wells near the Hick mine, the Boggs & Anderson well
(just above Cow Bell Riffle). On the Westmoreland side of the
river at Roaring Run were McCauley & Trux wells and a Mr. Gamble
had yet another well just up river from Roaring Run.

Around 1826 another well was drilled at the side of Old
Kiskiminetas Town. (This area is known today as Pine Run Bottom
and is located near the present day municipal water treatment
plant just outside of Vandergrift Borough).
