     Q. I send an e-mail newsletter out to my organization every
month. How can I do this without showing all the names on the
"send to" where others can copy them for Spam or other
     purposes?

     A. An e-mail message can be sent to three different recipient
fields: To (visible to recipients), CC ("carbon copy", visible
to recipients), and BCC ("blind carbon copy," invisible to
recipients). To hide all the addresses of the recipients,
place the addresses in the BCC field box and put your own or
the organization's e-mail address in the "To" field. To
display the BCC field box, first open a blank e-mail message.
In Outlook Express, select on the top menu "View | All
Headers." In Outlook 2000, select on the top menu "View | BCC
Field." With Netscape Navigator click on the "To:" button to
select the BCC field. In AOL 6.0, open your address book and
     click on "Blind Copy."

                 www.orsa-gronklitt.se/index.php?page

A web cam has been installed in this hibernating bear's (named
Saga) den. Her cubs are spending the long Scandinavian winter
in their den unaware that the whole world is watching. Located
in Orsa Bear Park, 170 miles northwest of Stockholm, the every
move of these bears are captured. The bad news (for us) is
that the web site is in the Swedish language, often has so
many hits you can't get to it, and bears don't move much while
     hibernating.

     POPE LOVES, FEARS THE NET
The Internet caters to the best and worst of human nature and
needs regulation to stop depravity-flooding cyberspace, Pope
John Paul said on Tuesday. The 81-year old pontiff, who last
year sent his first message over the Internet, praised it as
a "wonderful instrument" that should be used to spread the
word of God and encourage global peace. However, he warned
that while it offered access to immense knowledge, the
Internet did not necessarily provide wisdom and could easily
be perverted to demean human dignity. [Source: Reuters and

YAHOO TO PUT PRICE ON SEARCHES
'Premium Document Search' is part of a plan to increase
revenues in the light of scarce advertising dollars Yahoo!
plans to unveil a pay-per-view search product Wednesday, the
latest in a string of premium services aimed at offsetting a
sharp decline in its online advertising. Dubbed "Yahoo!
Premium Document Search", the service is designed to expand
on a previous agreement with search technology provider
Northern Light Technology, which has sold its premium search
business and some other assets to enterprise software company
Divine. Northern Light last year created a premium search
engine for Yahoo!'s corporate clients. "This fits into our
desire to diversify revenue and more effectively monetize
search and directory," said Scott Gatz, vice president of
search and directory for Yahoo!. Terms of the deal were not
disclosed. The move comes as Yahoo! launches a flurry of
money-making schemes in a bid to revive its revenue, which
dipped to $717m in 2001 from $1.1bn the previous year.

     ___TERRORSISM SITES___

Terrorism Project -- CDI [.pdf format]
     http://www.cdi.org/terrorism/

The Center for Defense Information presents this new site
devoted to terrorism featuring a variety of resources
grouped by subject (e.g., Homeland Defense, Operation
Enduring Freedom, Legislation). Users will find here the
text of legislation, factual and analytical articles, links
to other sites, and more. CDI's terrorism project " aims to
look at all aspects of fighting terrorism, from near-term
issues of response and defense, to long-term questions about
how the United States should shape its future international
     security strategy."

     Criminal Enforcement Against Terrorists
     http://trac.syr.edu/tracreports/terrorism/report011203.html

Syracuse-based Transactional Records Clearinghouse (TRAC), a
non-partisan group monitoring federal staffing, spending,
and enforcement activities, recently posted this report
covering referrals for prosecution in international and
domestic terrorist cases. It is difficult for the American
public to monitor the federal governments efforts to find
and prosecute terrorists because of the necessary secrecy
that surrounds the feds' anti-terrorist activities. With
this in mind, TRAC obtained (under court order) 131 computer
tapes "with data that offer the American people the most up-
to-date and complete view ever available about how the
government is enforcing the law against international and
     domestic terrorists."

     Big Picture Book of Viruses
     http://www.virology.net/Big_Virology/BVHomePage.html
"The Big Picture Book of Viruses is intended to serve as
both a catalog of virus pictures on the Internet and as an
educational resource to those users seeking more information
about viruses," claims the site's founder, Dr. Robert F.
Garry of Tulane University School of Medicine. From the left-
hand column of Big Picture Book's homepage, you can access
color images of viruses by name, structure/genome, host, or
associated disease (the images are held on external Websites
from a variety of research institutions).

     Google Catalog Search [Beta]
     http://catalogs.google.com/cathp
This new beta version site from Google offers catalogs from
major retailers. Google has scanned in the catalogs and
enabled them for text searching (though they warn that
searching may not be perfect, given the technologies
involved). While users still have to call the retailers to
order items, the site is a boon to those shoppers who are
rushed this holiday season. If you're regretting tossing out
that recent Ikea catalog or looking for a hard-to-find item,
this is a great stop for you.

     different look for their documents.
