Update: Median shoulder and barrier placement will occur from Hunt Club Road to the Cozy Inn Bridge. Permanent signal installation work will continue at all intersections. Permanent sign installation and reconstruction of Triangle Lane will also continue.
Westmoreland County State Route 22 (B08) This $35 million project is located in New Alexandria, Westmoreland County. The project includes the reconstruction of 22,066 feet of Route 22 from approximately 1500' east of Route 981 at New Alexandria to Route 982. This will be the reconstruction of existing two (2) and three (3) lane roadway to four (4)12-foot lanes of plain cement concrete pavement with an 18-foot non-traversable paved concrete median; the construction of a 20'x10' Box Culvert; installation of a traffic signal at Rushwood Road, and other miscellaneous construction consisting of paved shoulders, drainage and guide-rail, all within an overall project length of 4.20 miles. Contractor is Golden Triangle Construction Company. The anticipated completion date: August 2009. Contractor is crossing trucks which require stopping traffic at various times but no delays expected. Contactor continues earthwork and drainage work. Route 1033 (State Park Road) at the Route 22 intersecting point is closed. This allows the contractor to build the Eastbound traffic lanes and Jughandle at this location. The official detour is in place which uses Route 981 South to Route 1031 to Route 1018 back to Route 1033.
Update: Contractor is performing mainline concrete paving. This work is being done in the closed East bound lanes so there should not be any major delays. The contractor will be hauling concrete from the batch plant to the paving machine and some minor traffic stoppages may occur due to this.
Route 982 to Westinghouse Route 22 B09 Derry Township Route 22 Highway restoration project of approximately 1.9 miles of existing three and four lane roadway to four 12-foot lanes of plain cement concrete pavement with an 18-foot non-traversable paved concrete median; the construction of an alternate structure; installation of a traffic signal at the Route 982 intersection; and other miscellaneous construction consisting of paved shoulders, drainage and guide-rail. The section of Route 22 is from the intersection of Route 22 with Route 982 to the intersection of Route 22 with Auction Barn Road. Traffic patterns were changed on April 17 and will remain in place for several months. The let date for this project was September 13, 2007 with a bid amount of $19,588,000.65. The contractor is Golden Triangle Construction Company, Inc.
Update: Eastbound traffic is one lane on the newly constructed widened area from Westinghouse Road to Auction Barn Road. At this point, the traffic transitions back onto the existing old roadway. Westbound traffic is one lane with the traffic on the previously designated eastbound fast lane from Auction Barn Road to east of Westinghouse Road. At this point traffic is transitioned back to the existing westbound lane. The temporary traffic signal at Westinghouse Road is operational. Traffic will also be transitioned east of the Route 981 intersection to allow work to be performed on the north side of the Route 981 intersection. Motorists are asked to exercise caution and patience through the work zone.
Route 22 13R Murrysville and Salem Townships patching and joint repairs Motorists will encounter single lane restrictions as they travel on both east and west bound Route 22 between the intersections of Route 2055 (Hannastown Road) and Route 119 through October 17, 2008. Repairs consist of concrete patching, longitudinal and transverse joint rehabilitation, and concrete median barrier repair. No work will occur on the Route 22 B02 project area. This projected will be conducted by Matcon Diamond, Inc. and will cost approximately $846,167.48.
Center Avenue Route 3111 A10 This $8.3 million project consists of the enhancement and realignment of Center Avenue in New Stanton. The southern limit begins at the intersection with Byers Avenue. Center Avenue will be widened and upgraded to just south of Broadview Road. This work will make a center turn lane for businesses at the southern end of the project. Within the northern end of the project, a new roadway and bridge on a new alignment will be provided to eliminate two right angle turns and a narrow underpass beneath the Turnpike. The new roadway will connect with Arona Road at the ramp to the Amos K. Hutchinson Bypass. A left turn lane will be added on Arona Road and a new signal will be installed at this new intersection. In addition, an upgraded drainage system will be constructed on the entire length of Byers Avenue, east of Center Avenue. The contractor for this project is Plum Contracting, Inc., Pittsburgh, PA. Work on the project began in August, 2006 and is scheduled for completion in October, 2008.
Update: The new roadway and bridge between Arona Road and UPS are complete and open to traffic. Work has now shifted to Old Center Avenue between Interstate 70 and UPS. This work is currently being performed on a limited basis, waiting for various utilities to relocate their lines. Water line relocation is underway. Now that utility relocations have progressed, significantly, the contractor has resumed roadway work, in a coordinated effort with the various utilities. This section of old Center Avenue will be widened with new drainage and a turning lane. Due to the many businesses and traffic congestion some of the work on this section will be done at night. Flagger controlled, one lane traffic and short term rerouting of traffic to side streets can be expected. A truck detour is in effect prohibiting tractor trailers from using Center avenue, through the work zone. Trucks, other than local deliveries, will be re-routed to routes 70, 119 and Northeast Drive. Motorists are reminded to use caution while driving through this, and all work zones. Truck detours will be in affect until project completion
Route 30 / 981 Intersection Route 30 Q01 This $17,057,852 project is in Unity Township. The work on Route 30 begins at the Route 30 / Route 1045 intersection and ends at the intersection with Mt. Laurel Plaza on Rt. 30. It also includes Route 981 from its intersection with Arnold Palmer Drive and ends Monastery Drive. Involves adding additional lanes on Route 30, dual turn lanes at the 30 / 981 intersection, center turn lane on Route 981 between Route 30 and Monastery Drive, upgrade to five traffic signals, new drainage, milling, and overlay. The contractor for this project is Golden Triangle Construction Company from Imperial. Route 30 traffic will be shifted to the south while Route 981 traffic will be shifted to the east. The contractor is widening the outside westbound side on Route 30 and the outside shoulders on the westbound side on Route 981. Traffic signal work is occurring at the intersections of Route 981 and Arnold Palmer Drive, Route 30 and Route 1045 and Route 981 and Monastery Drive. Because of several unforeseen problems, the project completion date will be delayed till late October 2008. Please pay attention to changing traffic control patterns and signing and drive carefully through the project work zone.
Update: Night shifts continue along with paving operations. Watch for changing traffic patterns.
Saint Vincent Drive Relocation Route 1045 A10 This project includes the relocation of a portion of Route 1045 to eliminate traffic flow through the campus of St. Vincent's College. Also included will be 2 small structures and a roadway connection into the college campus. This project was let in conjunction with the Saint Vincent Connector Road project. The contractor for this $5,399,361 project is New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Inc.
Update: The project is continuing. Phase one is complete and the Phase one road is open. Phase two is started.
Treasure Island SR 1006 A10 This project is a bridge replacement from Route 259, Main Street to TR 861, Corvi Street. The 2 span concrete T-beam Bridge will be replaced with a single span structure. Route 1006 will be closed throughout construction and a signed detour route will be in place. The contractor on this $709,214.70 project is Lone Pine Construction, Inc. The road will be closed from Route 259 to Route 1011 with a marked detour that uses Route 259, Route 1013, Route 711 and Route 1011. A temporary crossing is being constructed for emergency vehicles only.
Update: The contractor is continuing construction of the abutments. The detour will remain in affect. Contractors will be pouring bridge deck on August 14. Hopefully will open second week of semester.
Route 366 Bridge Replacement Project Route 366 D10 This is a bridge replacement project on Route 366 in Plum Borough and the city of Lower Burrell, Westmoreland County. The two-span bridge will be widened and the approach roadway will be reconstructed as necessary to safely tie into the widened structure. The bridge is to be replaced via half-width construction. The plans include traffic control via single lane with temporary signal. The bid amount of this project is $1,878,398.35. The contractor is Beech Construction, Inc. This project started on March 31. Single lane traffic is controlled by the temporary signal.
Update: The temporary signal system has been installed and traffic is restricted to an alternating single lane in order to cross the bridge while it is under construction. There will be no other traffic pattern changes at this time.
Westmoreland County SR 30 22R Longbridge Road to Route 1046 (Main Street) This $4,044,800.88 project involves repairs to several bridges on Traffic Route 30 in Ligonier Township. The project also includes drainage pipe and inlet improvements and milling and paving the existing roadway. The contractor is Derry Construction Co. of Derry, PA.
Update: Paving has been completed from the Flashing Light at Route 1046 to the Coal Pit Run bridge, westbound. Night work has been discontinued for the week of Monday August 11th. The Contractor will complete the remainder of the paving after Labor Day. Work continues under Longbridge, during the day, but will not affect Rt. 30 traffic. Single lane day time road closures will resume, after Labor Day. A reduced speed limit of 40 MPH is in effect. Please use caution while traveling thru the construction project.
Turtle Creek Bridge SR 4041 E 10 This is a project replacing the Turtle Creek Bridge. The work begins at the Duff Park entrance and extends north to a point just south of the railroad crossing. The scope of work consists of replacing the existing structure in its entirety and associated approach roadway restoration with a Pre-Stressed Concrete Box Beam structure. Aerial and underground utility relocations will be made to accommodate the construction. Traffic will be accommodated by a single lane of traffic by constructing the new bridge half at a time. The let date for this project was May 15, 2008 and the contractor for this $ 1,259,145.00 project is Plum Contracting, Inc.
Emils Way This is an approximate 50-foot stretch that connects Route 30 and Center Highway in North Huntingdon that will be paved and signed.
Update: The roadway base repair is completed and a mountable curb is scheduled to be placed. Final paving will occur and the road is scheduled to reopen to traffic by the middle of August.
SR 130 06R North Greengate to Seton Hill This $3,626,714 project on Route 130 in Hempfield Township and the City of Greensburg begins approximately 2,800 feet west of the intersection of Route 130 and Route 4002 (Locust Valley Road) and continues through the SR 130/Clopper Street Intersection and ends at the railroad tunnel near the entrance to Seton Hill College. Work will begin on July 7 at will complete in August 2009. The work includes milling, concrete patching, resurfacing, new shoulders, updating drainage, signing, pavement markers, and guide rail. Winter shut down is tentatively scheduled between November 26, 2008 and March 30, 2009. The contractor is Tresco Paving Corporation.
Update: SR 0130 has been reduced to single lane traffic flow in both the Eastbound and Westbound directions. The outside lanes in both direction have been closed from the western end of the job near N. Greengate Road thru Clopper Street at the eastern end of the job.

While the workers prepare the concrete roadway for repair, they find themselves working within a couple of feet from live traffic. Flagpersons are assisting motorists to travel at slower speeds past these operations. Motorists can expect intermittent traffic stoppages as construction vehicles and equipment enter and exit the work zone. Also, motorists will be stopped briefly when concrete patching operations encroach the edge of the travel lane.
Once work is completed as described above, the inside lanes will be closed, tentatively scheduled for sometime during the latter part of August, 2008. In this Phase, the Contractor will finish concrete pavement patching and drainage operations. The Contractor anticipates this work to last 5-6 weeks.
SR 982 SIG This is a signal enhancement project to install or replace eleven traffic signals and to modify three others within Westmoreland County. The description and locations of the project is as follows: New traffic signal installation and traffic signal enhancements which includes upgrading of the existing traffic signal or specific components as follows: traffic signal poles, signal heads, controller, and loop sensors and miscellaneous roadway work in the following municipalities:

Update: The contractor will be working on the Mount Pleasant Road / Route 30 Ramps intersection in Hempfield Township and Mount Pleasant Road/Town Square Drive/Weatherwood Lane intersections in Hempfield Township. Motorists need to be aware of changing traffic patterns at the locations listed above.
SR 4003 B10 Branch of Brush Creek Bridge This is a project replacing the existing structure and associated approach roadway. The structurally deficient concrete Steel I-beam Bridge will be replaced with a structure that will continue to provide two lanes of travel. The new structure is anticipated to be constructed on the existing horizontal and vertical alignment with minimal widening to accommodate our bridge design criteria. Throughout construction, SR 4003 will be closed to all through traffic and a signed detour route will be in place. The contractor for this $ 588,802.00 project is C.H. & D. Enterprises, Inc. with a let date of June 5, 2008.
Welty Run Bridge SR 982 E10 This is a project replacing the existing structure and associated approach roadway. The structurally deficient concrete T-Beam Bridge will be replaced with a structure that meets safety, hydraulic, geometric, environmental and load carrying capacity requirements. The project consists of replacing the bridge carrying Route 982 over Welty Run and reconstructing the associated approach roadway as necessary to safely tie into the widened structure. Construction is anticipated to begin in late summer of 2008. During Construction Route 982 will be closed to all through traffic and a signed detour route will be posted. Access to businesses and adjacent properties will be maintained throughout construction. The contractor for this $ 773,857.42 project is Donegal Construction Corporation with a let date of June 5, 2008.
SR 30 23R This $3.1 million project is in Hempfield Township, the City of Greensburg, South West Greensburg and South Greensburg Borough. The scope of work, for Route 30 will consist of milling, resurfacing, and updating the guide rail, pavement marking and signs, within a length of 1.14 miles and includes bridge preservation which consists of concrete deck repairs, capping the piers, spot zone painting, new diaphragms, expansion dam repair, new mountable curb, milling, resurfacing, rebuilt inlets and updating the guide rail. The project limit begins approximately at the Route 136 Interchange (West Newton) and ends approximately 1,200 feet east of the Route 119 interchange. The contractor is Lane Construction. Lane restrictions are in affect for Route 30 at the Route 136 interchange and Route 136. This project includes rehabilitation of the Route 136 and Route 3103 bridges which span Route 30 ( work to be performed during daylight hours ) and milling and paving of Route 30 east- and west-bound and westbound from the Route 136 interchange to the Route 119 interchange ( work to be performed during nighttime hours 7:00 pm to 6 :00 am).
Update: Concrete repair work for the Route 136 and Route 3103 bridges will continue. Single lane restrictions will continue on Route 30 east and westbound.
Laughlintown Bridge SR 30 KOO This project is a bridge replacement of the Laughlintown Bridge which carries Route 30 over Laughlintown Run. The replacement is being designed to provide adequate width for two lanes of traffic and to meet current load requirements. The contractor for this $ 1,545,758.06 project is Russell Standard Corporation and the let date is August 14, 2008.
