LHPB
Laurel Highlanders Pipe Band was established in Westmoreland County, PA in 1975. The band's founder, John Duxbury, developed a pipe band with emphasis on competitive piping, rudimentary fingerings and traditional piping music. The Pipe Major (the leader of the band) Jim King is continuing the tradition and is leading the band to develop professionally and competitively.

A non-profit organization, the band performs parades and stage performances, in addition to competitions throughout the year.

The band is actively seeking new members that are interested in exploring their Celtic roots and performing Scottish Piping and Drumming. Free lessons are provided to those that commit to membership for two years.

In a recent discussion on the future of piping, Jim King said, "Many people call us and express an interest in learning piping and/or drumming, but only the ones that are truly interested, follow it through." He went on to say that for him, learning to play the pipes was like a "fever", it was something that he started and never put away. King said, “It isn’t for those that have a whim or fancy, it is for those that are committed.”
